Monster Hunter Alpha is definitely a departure from the first two books, but honestly I believe it’s the best one so far. I don’t know if it’s Correia escaping from Owen’s character, or if he simply improved his craft, but his writing here is much better than the previous novels. The plot of Monster Hunter Alpha is intricate and exciting, tying threads together and creating new questions. The multiple characters and their disparate personalities made each viewpoint engaging to read. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Harbinger and seeing the world through his eyes, as well. Correia has proven that he knows how to tell a story, and I am even more excited to find out what happens next.
